There’s something about a proposal that makes my heart race. Maybe it’s the suspense, the joy, or just knowing that I get to witness one of the most important moments in a couple’s love story. As a Crane Estate proposal photographer, I knew this session was going to be special from the very beginning. This Crane Estate proposal in Ipswich, MA was no exception. It was absolutely beautiful!
As a New England wedding and engagement photographer, I’m always scouting stunning locations, and the Crane Estate is one of them. With its beautiful lawns, grand staircase, and coastal views, it’s basically the Gatsby of Massachusetts proposal spots. So when this groom-to-be reached out to plan a surprise proposal there, I knew it was going to be gorgeous.
These two have a beautiful love story. They met in high school, dated throughout the years, and stayed strong through long distance during college. You could just tell they were meant to be as their connection was effortless, and they couldn’t stop smiling at each other the entire time.
His plan was to take her to scout the location as a potential wedding venue, then pop the question at the top of the grand staircase. I was being super casual, pretending to be a tourist (classic photographer move), heart pounding, ready to capture the moment.
Just after the big “yes,” as the couple hugged and soaked in the moment, a little boy wandered right through the middle of my shot – after the proposal, thankfully! It gave me a laugh (and a little bit of anxiety), but honestly, the timing couldn’t have been better. He may have photobombed the hug, but he didn’t steal the moment!
After the excitement (and a few happy tears), we explored the Crane Estate grounds for some post-proposal portraits. The late morning light was hitting just right, and their chemistry made my job ridiculously easy. From soft forehead kisses to genuine laughter, every shot felt genuine and full of emotion.
We wandered through the gardens, across the lawns, and ended near the hills, enjoying the stunning surroundings. It was one of those sessions where time flew, and I left feeling so grateful to do what I do. I genuinely enjoyed working with this couple; I loved their personalities, their openness to creativity and the trust they placed in me made the session truly enjoyable. It was clear they are genuinely kind and wonderful people!
If you’re thinking about planning a surprise proposal in Massachusetts, I’d love to help you capture the moment. From location scouting and timing to the actual “Will you marry me?” moment, I’m here to document every detail so you can just focus on the moment!
Whether you’re high school sweethearts like these two, or met a little later in life, your story deserves to be captured with intention, emotion, and joy.
